The Institute of Crop Science and Resource Conservation
was founded in 2005 by a consolidation of several institutes with the goal of coordinating and focusing research and teaching in the field of crop production and resource conservation.
The research of the 15 professors and several independent research groups is directed at a wide field ranging from soil science, microbiology, plant pathology, molecular physiological basis of stress resistance, functional genome analyses, plant breeding and crop production.

Forever University of Bonn
On Saturday, July 5, the University of Bonn will celebrate this year's Universitätsfest – and at the same time a special anniversary: For 20 years, it has been holding a ceremony as part of this festival to bid farewell to its graduates from the current year. Around 2,000 of them have registered for this year's event. For the first time, the celebration will take place in an expanded public format in the Hofgarten park. After the internal graduation ceremony, the event will be open to the public at around 3:30 p.m. The celebrations will include a performance by the Kölsch rock group Cat Ballou. The media are cordially invited to report on the event.
Experiments on Wheat, Knowledge Rally and Renewable Resources

There’s still one spot to the left of the sign!” One thing was immediately clear, even before you’d parked your car: heavy rain earlier that Sunday morning hadn’t dampened interest in the open house at Klein-Altendorf Campus.For this year’s event, Klein-Altendorf Campus of the Faculty of Agricultural, Nutritional, and Engineering Sciences co-presented with the bio-innovationpark Rheinland in honor of its tenth anniversary. As always, there was also a tractor taxi and tours of the experimental fields and orchards.
Cluster of excellence "PhenoRob" receives further funding
It is a huge success for the University of Bonn: in the nationwide excellence competition, all six of the university's existing Clusters of Excellence were selected for further funding on 22 May 2025 and, in addition, both newly applied Bonn cluster initiatives will also receive funding.
Among the clusters to receive further funding is the PhenoRob Cluster of Excellence of the Faculty of Agricultural, Nutritional and Engineering Sciences - the only cluster in Germany in the field of agriculture.
Caroline Marcon and Frank Hochholdinger received the cooperator award of the Maize Genetics Cooperation
Frank Hochholdinger, professor for Crop Functional Genomics at the INRES and Carolin Marcon, project leader of the BonnMu group, were honored with the 2025 Maize Genetics Cooperator Award by the Maize Genetics Cooperation at the 67th maize genetics conference in St. Louis, USA.
